In our surgery, as in most, it is mandatory that blades be removed from scalpel handles and disposed of before the pack goes to be cleaned. These blades always break in half, often leaving a sharp piece of metal on the handle. The blades on Miltex brand handles always pop off cleanly so the blade goes in the sharps container and the handle goes in the trash.

Good enough to remove some nasty skin tags in the arm pits. However, I don't think these are anywhere near surgical sharpness, especially compared to what I've experienced at my FACS during mole removal. However, the price is right and they are nicely packaged for protection and disposal. There is certainly nothing wrong with these. I think the photos are misleading, though. The blade end is actually shaped like you would expect of a scalpel. It's about a quarter of an inch wide, like the top photo in the collection of 4 photos.

These are fine for arts and crafts but when it comes to minor home surgery, they are just too damned dull. Even so, they are hand-friendly and easy to manipulate, so if you are looking for an alterative to an Xacto knife, they will suffice.

I love these scalpels. I watch cyst popping videos on youtube and I decide I need to get my own scalpel and start popping! Well, not exactly but I have used the scalpels and they are perfect. Each one is individually wrapped and sterile and they all have their own cap. I highly recommend these if you actually need some at home scalpels!

These scalpels are perfect!! They are wonderful for projects where my Xacto knife is just too bulky to get into necessary areas. They are exactly what you would expect from such a product - VERY sharp (so be careful!), but with a protective cover over the blade. I'm still using the first one from the pack!
